Cancer Bats are a fun band to listen to. One part hardcore, one part post hardcore, one part punk, one part rock and roll, one slight part indie rock, Cancer Bats are a band full of elements and, uh, parts. When I say parts (obviously), I don't mean that their songs are fluent in numerous parts, as they keep things relatively basic with the verse/chorus/bridge mentality. Instead, they incorporate the various styles/genres that I mentioned above, and they do it well.
I'm a big fan of the vocals, which remind me of almost stoner rock crooning meets hardcore yelling, making for a very interesting approach. I love what Liam Cormier does with the songs, making them that much better. The music is good, very guitar heavy and with a lot of parts that will, at the very least, get feet tapping, but its the Cormier's vocals that make the band.
This is a very aggressive album, one that will make you want to lift weights to burn off the extra energy that is streaming through the speakers. It took me a couple listens to really get into this, but combinations of styles powered by Cormier's vocals make for too good a combination not to dearly enjoy.
