Oliver Trolley-Circles
Gas Can Music
March 29, 2011

While this isn’t exactly my style of music, Oliver Trolley have written an album that was made for the summertime. It’s light and melodic, full of sunshine. There’s not a ton of substance to this melodic pop-rock album, but there doesn’t need to be. This should be the soundtrack to beach traffic.

This is a real happy album. I can’t help but be reminded of “Semi-Charmed Life” by Third Eye Blind (minus the lyrics about drugs) mixed with some Modest Mouse (the opening riff of “Living’ My Life” brings that to mind) and Top 40 radio. The songs are catchy, simple and easy to understand. There is nothing threatening about Circles, and that’s fine.

Oliver Trolley have written six songs ready to take over the airwaves, for better or worse. I can see people hating this, but it’s hard to deny it marketability and the career this band should have. Its not going to break down any walls, but it wasn’t meant to. They succeeded at writing a feel good album, which seemed to be their initial goal.
