Dance Club Massacre-Circle of Death
Blackmarket Activities

It took me awhile to finally get around to listening to this album, Christmas Eve in fact. After a season full of non stop Christmas songs attacking from every angle, I couldn't help but listen to Dance Club Massacre and be reminded of Trans Siberian Orchestra. I know that the two bands are relatively different, but the opening moments of "Risk is My Business...and Business is Risky" have that proggy symphonic metal sound that I've been hearing since Halloween.

With the exception of the brutally long and enduring version of "100 Bottles of Beer on the Wall" (which takes well over 20 minutes), Dance Club Massacre hit hard with their symphonic black technical metal. The vocals are damn near evil and even throw in a pig squeal once in awhile (Nick Seger has quite an array of voices that he uses well to the band's advantage), and the music is tight and a lot of fun to listen to, with Matt Hynek's keyboard playing adding an extra depth to the mix.

A lot of people may be sick of this style of music, but Dance Club Massacre do it right on Circle of Death. They don't seem to take themselves too seriously, and you can sense the good times that these guys are having with these songs.
