Trap Them-Darker Handcraft
Prosthetic
March 15, 2011
Trap Them like things as fast and as loud as humanly possible. Though not every drumbeat on “Darker Handcraft” is miles over the speed limit, everything is done with a rushed sense of urgency while remaining as tight as can be. With an album sounding this fast and loud, it’d be a shame if it didn’t sound angrier than a spoiled child being told “no.” Luckily, Trap Them is that angry.
With the songs having an angry, fast and grimy feel to them, one might think that the songs would blend into each other. I don’t know how Trap Them pulls it off, but they don’t. Each song has something distinct about it that sets it apart from others. I love the guitar tone provided by Brian Izzi, which is as dirty as can be, but played with such precision that it’s impossible to ignore. It fits in wonderfully with the heavy rhythm section, and provides the ultimate backdrop for Ryan McKinney to rip up his throat.
Trap Them play crusty hardcore with bits of metal thrown in there. They don’t hold back, with each song both mesmerizing and pulverizing the listener. I’m reminded of bands like From Ashes Rise, His Hero is Gone and Tragedy, as well as Entombed. Fans of the heavy rejoice.
