Defeater-Lost Ground
Bridge 9
November 17, 2009

This is some good hardcore on display. They are filling in that huge gap of epic and meaningful music that is chock full of aggression that Modern Life is War (I know a lot of bands have copped their style, but Defeater is epic on a different style) and Verse left behind. The songs have a slower tempo and feature an almost indie rock feel if not for the great screaming voice of Jay Maas; giving them a constant extra level of emotion. They aren't afraid of playing with dynamics, and this works to the benefit of everyone.

Lost Ground is a flat out killer EP with a great storyline (I'm still piecing together the lyrics, but its about a guy dealing with life post-war) that is bound to get people talking even more than they did upon the release of Travels. Defeater is a special band; one that doesn't come around too often, and it won't be long before the music community catches on to them.
