Austrian Death Machine-Double Brutal
Metal Blade
September 29, 2009
Can jokes be taken too far? Yes. Just look at Family Guy. Is that necessarily a bad thing? No. Just look at Family Guy. With the release of Double Brutal, released slightly more than a year after the pretty hilarious Total Brutal, an homage (or poking fun-take your pick) to Arnold Schwarzenegger, Tim Lambesis continues shredding out the riffs with fast, heavy metallic hardcore songs with ripping solos. The songs are fast metallic hardcore that is, in fact, brutal. The breakdowns are great, the vocals are harsh, the drums are fast. What more could a fan ask for? Cover songs. Austrian Death Machine covers songs from the Misfits, Megadeth, Metallica, Judas Priest, Motorhead, Goretorture and Agnostic Front, which can aggravate cynics, but are pretty good overall.
Though I think he takes the Arnold theme a little too far, Lambesis rips out some great music on this album, and some jokes were made to be taken over the edge. This is an album that, if people can look past the fact that it was written in good fun, will please the majority of the metallic hardcore listening crowd. I'm looking forward to see how long Lambesis can keep this theme going, which will hopefully be for a long time if he continues to write such solid music.
