I had high expectations for Energy ever since first hearing them in September of 2006, and they seem to be the perfect match for Bridge 9; a melodic hardcore band in vein of Ignite, Gorilla Biscuits and AFI (the "woahs" remind me of them and the cover art is similar). Energy keep things fast, moving and melodic.
Energy, like Ignite, lives and dies by the strength of their singer. Tank, who sounds a bit like Zoli, has an amazing voice and completely takes over the album with his vocal phrasing. There are plenty of parts to sing along to. The music does a great job of backing him up-there is always something interesting going on music-wise-but its his voice that demands attention.
This is only their first full length, and Energy have given listeners a lot to look forward to. This is a very solid effort, but Energy seem like the type of band who are going to grow with each album. If that prediction is true, than look out. They are the spark of energy and melody that hardcore is looking for.
