I'm no expert on hip hop, but I know what I like, and I like Atmosphere. The songs are well crafted with story-like lyrics that are interesting and easy to follow. I like the flow of words and the soothing tone of Slug's voice. This is a very laid back album, leaving me very relaxed.
The lyrics are very good, full of clever lines that tell a story that interests me. This is similar to listening to a book on tape, but with a catchy beat. I never want to sing along because I pick up on different things with each new listen. This is a release with a lot of layers to it, each layer as interesting as the last.
Atmosphere brings a lot to the table, and The Family Key serves as an admirable follow up to, in my opinion, one of the better hip hop albums in out in When Life Gives You Lemons. The Family Sign a more mellow album, with some excellent guitar work courtesy of Nate Collis, but its a strong offering that will only help their already huge fanbase grow.
