Filth/Blatz-Shit Split
Alternative Tentacles
January 20, 2009

I've owned this split on vinyl since high school, but I jumped at the chance to finally pick it up on CD so I can listen to it in the car and on my iPod. Both bands have their own little niche to them, coming up in the same East Bay scene that brought people like Green Day, Operation Ivy, Crimpshrine, etc.

Filth remind me of Crimpshrine, except with screaming. Their songs go by at a good pace, having a crust vibe done with a street punk style. Blatz are a little different than Filth, featuring a combination of male and female vocals. The vocals aren't very good, but they grew on me, proving that some bands don't need top notch vocalists to lure people in. Their punk songs have East Bay punk written all over them, and become staples in my head. I'm also a big fan of their cover of "I Don't Care About You," sounding like a good time karaoke version.

This is a pretty damn good value. Two discs that come in one jewel case, featuring 29 songs of what I consider to be two overlooked bands.
