Pour Habit-Got Your Back
Fat
April 12, 2011

Why this millennium hasn’t produced more bands like Pour Habit is a mystery to me. The super fast melodic punk has always been a favorite style of mine, and its great seeing fresh blood in the water. I was impressed with Suiticide, and Got Your Back picks up right where that left off.

Pour Habit pays tribute to the bands that made Fat Wreck Chords famous. There are strong resemblances to Strung Out, Lagwagon and Propagandhi, with a vocalist that sounds like Dexter Holland from The Offspring. Because the vocals are so similar, I can’t listen to these guys without thinking of the non-novelty Offspring songs, which are pretty strong in their own right. The songs are catchy, melodic and full of fast drumming and wild guitar lines. There are some metal parts and breakdowns, which only adds to my enjoyment.

Though their two ska songs are a little out of place (I’ve gotten used to them), this is a solid throwback album. I really hope Pour Habit bring about a melodic punk revival. We could use more of this style.
