Sister-Hated
Metal Blade
June 7, 2011

This is an album that instantly struck a chord with me. I was immediately reminded of the good parts of the 80s hair metal trend mixed with a punk rock fury with a rock and roll backbone. This is a dirty album, but it’s the good kind of dirt.

I’m normally drawn to the guitar riffs with a band like Sister, but they take a backseat on Hated. The riffs are good enough, and the solos work, but the guitars don’t stand out. That’s not a bad thing, as the music is really solid and the vocals are killer. There’s a lot of catchy parts that are easy to sing along to.

I’m reminded of a mixture of Judas Priest, Skid Row and She Rides. Sister is the type of band that will be able to bring in fans from a lot of different genres. There is a throwback element (complete with a power ballad), but enough modern class to keep things contemporary. I really hope to see these guys make a splash in the States, Rhode Island specifically.
