Its nice to know that None More Black can take some time off without losing any of the swagger that made them such a popular band in the first place. The energy remains, as does the crafty songwriting. This isn't much of a departure from This is Satire, their previous release over four years ago, which is fine by me.
Part rock, part punk, but turned up to 11, Icons has a very comforting yet fist pumping feel to it. I'm a big fan of the guitar work. Though nothing super fancy, its solid and drives the songs, matching Jason Shevchuk's intense voice pound for pound. The drums pound away, keeping everything together and adding some fancy fills in the process. This album is akin to a late night party that no one wants to leave.
With the exception of standout track, "Backpedal" (I can't get enough of the chorus), all of these songs are on equal footing, and the enjoyment level is high. Its good to see None More Black back while still being able to melt people's faces off.
