Kylesa-Static Tensions
Prosthetic
March 17, 2009

I don't feel quite comfortable saying this, but Kylesa has sort of gone melodic. Now, before thinking that the sky is on fire and Armageddon happened yesterday, my feeling isn't quite what you think. They're still heavy hitting and encased in crust, but Static Tensions is laced in melody. There is some singing, but think of the way Mastodon adds singing parts in their songs. I wasn't expecting this, but I really like it.

The flow and feel of these songs are outstanding. The mixture of crust, punk, metal, hardcore, stoner and a slew of other styles could make for an uncomfortable situation, but Kylesa carefully craft an audible puzzle that isn't hard to put together. Most importantly, Kylesa slam the listener with non stop crushing riffs, each as amazing as the one before it; the true strongpoint that will impress anyone that has ever banged their head.
