The Lordz-The Brooklyn Way
Perfect Game/East West
July 11, 2006

I was a little reluctant to listen to this, seeing as I hate bands with poor spelling, but The Lordz (not to be confused with Jade Tree powerhouse Lords) are a pretty killer band that I'm definitely glad I listened to. The music sounds like a mixture between Rancid, The Ramones and The Transplants, with a little more of a hip hop influence. I'm not usually into any type of hip hop, sans for a very few bands (Run DMC, Beastie Boys, NWA), but The Brooklyn Way has a punk rock influence (its more of a punk album with a hip hop influence) that I love listening to. Every song is catchy and well written, with enough parts to sing along to in the car. These songs with guest appearances ("Outlaw" featuring Tim Armstrong, "The Brooklyn Way" featuring Everlast and "Soundboy" featuring Bedouin Soundclash) are three of their strongest, but the album is full of strong songs. "Uh Oh" has a very fun vibe to it that screams "Summer Radio Hit," and their cover of Jim Carroll's "People Who Died" convinced me to finally purchase Catholic Boy for my own collection. The Brooklyn Way could serve as a perfect middle ground for hip hop kids wanting to try out punk rock and vice versa.
