Mouthpiece-Can't Kill What's Inside: The Complete Discography
Revelation
January 20, 2009
Yes, there have been a lot of Youth Crew bands that have come and gone through the years, but of all the ones I listen to, Mouthpiece really seem to have a youthful enthusiasm to them. Bands like Youth of Today, Judge and Side by Side had an aggression to them that made them seem a bit older. Whether they meant it or not, Mouthpiece have a sense of fun in these songs, reminding me of kids having a good time making music (I'm sure the above bands mentioned did this as well, but I hear it more on this discography). There's no sense of urgancy or immediacy on here, just music to rock out to. The songs aren't always super fast, but they're super fun, and Tim McMahon does a good job of getting his message across without sounding too preachy.
This is an important hardcore album for fans that may have missed them in their prime or altogether (present company included), or for fans that want to relive their glory days. If nothing else, this release of all their recorded material, as well as some live songs, serves as proof to the impact that Mouthpiece had on the straight edge movement, staying strong at a time when many others had moved on and before others (Earth Crisis, Ten Yard Fight-though different styles) had hit their mark.
