Between the Buried and Me-The Parallex: Hypersleep Dialogues
Metal Blade
April 12, 2011
Between the Buried and Me are well known for pushing the boundaries of heavy music, which is something they’ve done since their inception. They’ve succeeded at every endeavor, from writing a technical as all hell song to the mind blowing guitar parts to the seemingly out of nowhere melodic parts to Circles (an album that flows together to make an hour long song), and they somehow make it look easy.
Metal Blade was smart to snatch these guys up, and their debut is a mindbender. Its only three songs long, but it clocks in at just over thirty minutes (two seconds over, to be exact). They haven’t changed their style in the slightest. Everything you love about Between the Buried and Me is here. There are a ton of parts, the guitar work can make one dizzy, the drumming is unbelievable, the melodic parts will have you singing along, etc.
A pinpoint description of Between the Buried and Me isn’t easy. This is a band that needs to be heard to be believed. They’re not the most accessible band, but the people that enjoy them get a lot out of their material. The Parallax: Hypersleep Dialogues is a welcome addition to their catalog.
