The Have Nots-Proud
Paper and Plastick
May 3, 2011

I'm gonna get my complaint with this album out of the way off the bat. "Where In the World" really bugs me with its anthemic line: "Where in the world was the world?" The song itself isn't that bad; in fact, its pretty catchy, but that line is cringeworthy enough for me to skip over the entire song.

That aside, this is a really good ska-punk album; one that would fit well in the mid 90s when this was all the rage, but featuring enough grit for all the street kids to proudly wear a Have Nots patch on their underwashed clothes. Fans of the syle will give them a pat on the back, congratulating them on getting it right. The first four songs had me hooked from the first listen, and are the ones that get the most playing time for me. The rest of the album I haven't talked about holds its own, but these are the songs I can't stop listening to at this moment.

Proud gives you plenty of moments to sing along to, with some outlandishly catchy hooks that will propel them to a A List punk band. They're energetic, laid back (when needed), and full of enough lighthearted melody (with deep lyrics) to be blasted on the car ride to the beach this summer.
