Raunchy-Wasteland Disclotheque
Life Force

Raunchy are a band that is so formuliac that I am surprised that I like them so much. They seem like they should be so predictable, but they're not, as this is the second album in a row that I have been completely surprised with glee after listening to it. On the outskirts, they are a sing/scream metalcore band, but they are actually so much more.

Their strength lies in their keyboard riffs and the melodic vocals. The keyboard riffs come at you like a beautiful sky that is about to fall to impending doom. They add a spectrum of light to what would otherwise be dark and heavy music. While the guitars slam everything home, keeping the music hard metal and heavy as a bowl of bricks, the keyboards bring the beauty and the aura, making Raunchy something more than a generic band. Now, take everything that was said about the keyboards and repeat for the melodic vocals, which are a little heavier than most people would think, still with an element of harsh at times.

While there are some cringeworthy metalcore parts, Raunchy manage to use melody to their advantage (unlike a lot of bands) in making a pretty good album. There are many great parts that far outshadow the few not so great parts. Oddly enough, they need the heavy parts to make the melodic parts work as well as they do. This is a creative band that is on to something.
