Silverstein-Rescue
Hopeless
April 26, 2011
I’ve always been a pretty big supporter of Silverstein. They were always at the top of the heap of the sing/scream post hardcore style that has remained popular for so long. They always took the style and added a little dash of originality to it to separate them from the cookie cutter acts.
Silverstein has never shied away from the faster tempos, which is something unheard of in a style like this. They have some galloping drums in more than a few songs, giving them a more punk/hardcore feel. I like how this contrasts with the more melodic parts. Not many bands can pull this off, but Silverstein does, making it look easy in the process.
Silverstein is best at writing songs with staying power. They are catchy enough to stay in your head. The music is stellar, with intricate guitar parts really catching my ear. There is always something interesting going on, which keeps things from going stale. This is a very action packed album.
Some say Rescue is a return to form, but I think they hold serve with their past material; not seeing too much of a change from previous work. That said, this might be my favorite album from a band that has held my heart for years.
