Swingin' Utters-Hatest Grits B Sides and Bullshit
Fat
October 28, 2008

Its hard to believe that the Swingin' Utters have been a band for about 20 years. A Juvenile Product of the Working Class is one of the most important punk albums of the 1990s and these guys have always held a loyal fanbase. I guess now is as good a time as any to release a B Sides, etc. album, giving something to tide fans over with until they release a new album in 2009 (according to the liner notes).

As much as I love this band, this album goes a little too long for my liking. Over 76 minutes with some songs that are far from their best, I found listening to this all the way through a taxing task. BUT, this compilation features more than its fair share of great original songs, three Cock Sparrar covers and five untitled songs at the end of the album that just blow me away. I was also stoked to again hear the album's opener, "No Groove In Gunsights," which was on a comp featuring bands from Boston and San Fransisco called I've Got My Friends (along with one of those Cock Sparrar covers) that I somehow broke and have no clue how to reattain.

Each song has comments from each band member, and there are a ton of pictures, making this a must for any Swingin' Utters fan. It is too long for me to listen to in one sitting, and not every song is up to par, but there are too many classic and excellent songs for fans to pass up.
