Scale the Summit-The Collective
Prosthetic
March 1, 2011

Instrumental music is always give and take with me. Some I really enjoy, some serves as background music, some I’m indifferent to, and some should never be played again. The key to good rock oriented instrumental music (there’s no need to write a small essay on jazz or classical) all lies in the guitar work, and they have 15 strings of guitar (and six of bass) to keep things more than interesting.

Scale the Summit know how to play their instruments, with Chris Letchford and Travis LeVrier being damn near guitar masters. The guitar work is non-stop, but its not overbearing. They are technical players that walk the fine line between writing cohesive parts that can keep a listener’s attention and showing off. There is a certain flow to these songs, as they seem to bleed together (this isn’t a complaint, just a statement). The rhythm section is solid, picking their moments to shine.

The Collective is an album mainly for lovers of great guitar work. There is always something ear-grabbing going on and there is a lot to gain with each new listen.
