Tony Sly-12 Song Program
Fat
February 16, 2010
Tony Sly can write some relaxing music. There was always a calming aura to his songs, even the most aggressive in the No Use For A Name catalogue, but he kicks everything up a few notches with his solo debut. Needing not much more than an acoustic guitar and his soothing voice (throw in an accordion on two songs, a violin on one and a bass on one as well), Sly takes a different direction than his singer/songwriter counterparts. This isn’t quite the campfire music of his peers; more a vision into his soul with open eyes; full of emotion that he carries with his voice.
Though only a half hour long, 12 Song Program seems to fly by. The songs are all memorable, but the album seems over before I’m ready for it to be. With only three songs over three minutes, this is only a quick glimpse into his soul, leaving me wanting nothing but more. This is a good album to listen to in front of a fireplace while eating popcorn.
