Two Cow Garage-Speaking in Cursive
Suburban Home
October 21, 2008

From a band that caught my ear over a year ago with Three, and has had heavy rotation in my stereo even since, Speaking in Cursive out does their previous work, and impressively so. They didn't change their style of writing punk fused rock and roll songs with a country twist. Instead, they just cranked the chops up to 11, coming up with heartfelt songs that are a lot of fun to sing along to.

At the helm is the voice of Micah Schnabel, a gruff but sincere sound that gives Speaking in Cursive its variety of emotions. He puts a lot of emphasis on every word, no matter volume he is singing in. As much as the music can be rocking or lamenting, his voice (except for the songs that Shane Sweeney leads) is always at the center, with meaningful lyrics to boot.

This is an album that is full of strong songwriting from start to finish. Every song has its own little quirk to make it memorable, and its worth many repeat listens. I know that this "Springsteen style punk country etc." is a sort of trend right now, but Two Cow Garage are doing all the right things to make them a memorable band.
