Ty Segall
Castle Face
2008

Ty Segall truly solves the conundrum of playing in a (nearly) full band without band members. With a guitar on his lap and a bass drum and hi hat/tamburine at his feet (I lost the one sheet that lists his instruments, but I'm pretty sure that's it), he croons through Ramones' styled punk, assuming that The Ramones grew up in a pissed off gutter and worshipped garage rock. Segall's almost child having a tantrum like screaming and the "press play on a tape deck" styled recording, which would normally leave me repulsed, really intrigues me on this album. Those aspects give it a lot of personality. Its not a personality that everyone will like, but its a unique one that demands respect.
