Ironwill-Unturned
Blood and Ink
March 29, 2011

Not many bands are playing this style of music anymore, and I’m glad that Irownwill are bringing it back. This is melodic hardcore full of catchy guitar lines, good breakdowns and some speedy drumming. Shai Hulud immediately comes to mind, which brings back some fun memories and a yearning for the past, some parts of it anyway.

While the music reminds me of Shai Hulud, the vocals remind me of a less screamy American Nightmare. This makes for a killer combination and a band that should have hardcore kids lining out the door. The guitar work, while not always overpowered with guitar lines, is fun to listen to. There is a lot of syncopation and some good stops and starts. The breakdowns, while used sparingly, know how to kick it up a notch. The rhythm section is tight, making Ironwill the total package.

Hardcore and melodic metal bands take note: this is how the style is done right. Ironwill don’t pretend to be anything they’re not. The music is honest and heavy, and will have you rushing for the repeat button.
