5. Off With Their Heads-From the Bottom: This is a band that takes influences from a lot of different places. They mix street and melodic punk, add sing alongs and a gruff attitude, making for a band that people will be going ape for in the near future. (No Idea)
4. Hold Steady, The-Stay Positive: This album caught some flack by critics for being more polished than their previous works. It doesn't sound that much more polished to me, and Stay Positive features some of their best songs ever written, especially the first three. They are still writing rock and roll bar slurs, and they are very good at it. As an added bonus, they name drop Youth of Today and Seven Seconds, which came way out of left field. (Vagrant)
3. Tim Barry-Manchester: I got this album for Christmas, and haven't spent much time not listening to it. I heard the stream on "the org," but I didn't have a copy of my own for another month and a half. I knew I was going to enjoy Manchester, but I didn't think that I would get this enthralled with it instantly. (Suburban Home)
2. Two Cow Garage-Speaking in Cursive: I saw them play at Jake's on October 25. While there, I bought a shirt and a zip up. I've been wearing the zip up daily as a jacket since then, and just now people are starting to look at their eccentric band name that is displayed across my chest and laugh. Weird name aside, these songs are full of heart. They mix punk with sincere Springsteen styled rock and roll and add some touches of Lucero to the mix, along with a little bit of Tom Waits. Two Cow Garage can pull off any style they want, and Speaking in Cursive is their trophy album thus far. (Suburban Home)
1. Gaslight Anthem, The-The '59 Sound : I know that this is the "sexy" choice for at least a mention in most End of Year Lists, but I have a hard time not listening to this album. I'll go from song to song, finding new things to love about them with each listen. Sure, the cover is a little creepy (unless you like four dudes staring at you with a "tough" look), but the inside is pure gold. 2009 will most likely be good to them, deservedly so. (Side One Dummy)
