This interview with Norma Jean was supposed to have taken place way back in March, but a bunch of weird things happened that night which prevented the interview from taking place. I sent it via Email and it showed up this week. Its strange because some of the questions were outdated and there were others that I wouldn't think of asking now. Norma Jean is a damn good band that you should check out when they play the Sounds of the Underground Tour this summer, and pick up O God, The Aftermath if you already haven't.
1. Introduce yourself.
I am Jake, I hang out and Play Bass.
2. What were you trying to convey with the songs on Oh God, the Aftermath being split up into 93 tracks?
Um...I guess you just got the pre release, cause the actual CD doesn't have 93 tracks on it. We did that so it would be harder to burn and file share, just cause the original tracks were split up into like 9 different tracks.
3. Do you find it difficult to write lyrics with two other people?
Not at all. We all give out two cents, in either music or lyrics. It is much better that way, cause a band is a group of people and if just one person is writting the lyrics or music then the other members just hang out and play one persons music. The way that we write it feels like a group effort (because it is in fact a group effort) more personal for us all
4. What are your thoughts and opinions on the Sound of the Underground Tour that you're playing?
We are all really excited about this summer. First off there are alot of our friends on this tour, so its gonna be a big hang out. Also ticket prices are super cheap considering all the bands that are playing. When it was presented to us they said that was one of the main focuses of this tour (to keep ticket prices cheap). That is awesome, It also has a diverse lineup so there are gonna be alot of new fans for everyone. This is the first year of it and we are so glad to be apart of it. I hope it continues and grows!
5. How often do you wash your van during a tour?
You should probably ask how many times a year do we wash our van! We try to wash it once a tour, but it is usually after the tour is over! We probably wash our van as much as we wash our hair!
6. Is it tough to tell a friend's band that they aren't that good?
What....... all bands are good! Sometimes it does get a little weird, but I just pick out the parts I like and focus on those. And most the times the reason they are our friends is not because of there music, but because of who they are. So music doesn't really come into play alot.
7. Whats a little known fact about Georgia?
We have a mountain that really isn't a mountain,(Stone mountain) Our state flag used to Suck. we have the most Zebras in our state out of the lower 48 states! Mastodon lives in Atlanta and other fun stuff.
8. Do you think that foreign born citizens should be allowed to run for President?
Well we are the country of freedom! So I dunno I am not running for president! I guess as long as they promise to hand out Sweet Tea and BBQ I'll vote for them!
9. Name one album, besides your own, that you think all kids should have in their collection.
The Lobers Greatest Hits.
Second choice Melvins (Houdini)
10. Final comments...
MY Mastodon T shirt has a Pegacorn on it (it freaking rules)
