Chuck Palahniuk is back at full force. After writing a couple of clunkers and "Rant," which was good but a little difficult to get wrapped into, Palahniuk goes back to doing what he does best: writing a fucked up story with an almost unfathomable plotline with more useless facts than the average person needs to know in a lifetime.
As a woman attempts to set the record for the world's biggest gangbang (600 pud pullers strong), the story focuses on accounts from three men and the young girl who is running everything (not quite sure what her title is). They are all first person accounts, sometimes dealing with the same thing, but all advancing the plot of the story in their own twisted way. A murder suicide plot goes awry, a boy searches for the mother who gave him up, and an ex star pops viagra like candy due to his homosexual tendencies.
The descriptions are outstanding, twisted as they may be. Palahniuk paints a picture of the "green room" (actually a dank basement with one bathroom for 600 near naked seed sprayers) that will make the reader squirm, in need of a long shower. He also goes into great detail about the porno sex scenes featuring future record breaker Carrie Wright, usually a historical or literary reference from someone who originally wanted to be a legit stage actor.
This is Palahniuk's best work since "Lullaby."Its a quick read (less than 200 pages) that provides some low class and sometimes cringe worthy entertainment.
