Disfear, Phobia, Misery Index, Strong Intention, I Destroyer
Club Giza in Providence, RI
May 14, 2006

The show was supposed to start at 5, but not many people were there, so the first band didn't go on until 6:30. This actually worked out well, because Nine Shocks Terror (whom I didn't stay to see) was running late and didn't get to the club until a few minutes after Disfear tore the stage a new asshole (I know this because we drove by their van on the way home).

I Destoryer opened the show, and made me realize how much I miss Dropdead (they share the same singer). I Destroyer was pretty tight, and their set gradually became more enjoyable. The first few songs they played were more rock oriented, while still maintaining a hardcore sound, but the final few songs of their set were fast as hell and wonderfully enjoyable.

Strong Intention's goal seemed to be to play music as fast as humanly possible. The speed I enjoyed, but the songs all seemed to bleed into each other, as there wasn't much variety in the music. I enjoyed their singer, a big dude who looked much older than the rest of his bandmates. I saw him walking around the club before with a whiskey bottle, but he was so big that I thought I was a beer at first until I saw it up close.

Misery Index was freaking awesome, as they always are. Whats not to like about their style of grinding death metal? They were tight and the new songs sounded wonderful. I highly suggest checking this band out, as they never disappoint, live or on record.

Phobia played a ton of really short songs. Not many people were into them, which was surprising considering they tore up the AS220 a couple years ago when they last played Rhode Island (in their defense, the crowd was very apathetic until Disfear played). They put on a pretty good show, despite the zombified and tired crowd (what do you expect after two straight weeks of rain?), playing a decent mixture of old and new songs.

Disfear was amazing. I had been waiting excitedly for months to be able to see them play, and they did not disappoint. Their music was so energetic and they had a pretty big pit going for them, full of fans singing along to every word. Since Nine Shocks Terror were running late, Disfear was able to play a couple songs as an encore after being egged on by the crowd.
