I could hear Two Cow Garage playing "Come Back to Shelby" as I was walking to the club, which had recently reopened after being closed for a few months (someone said something about renovations, but the place looked exactly the same). I was worried that I had missed a lot of their set, especially with the energy they were putting into each note. I had a nervous sensation that I was walking into their last song (the fact that no one was at the door collecting money put some fear in me as well), but it seemed like I timed it out perfect, as I saw them play for over an hour, deep into last call.
The "this is our last song so lets make it count" energy that had me worried that I was walking into the end of Two Cow Garage's set was the energy that they put into each song, leaving me quite impressed, especially since only half of their band played standing up. They put a lot of heart and desire into each song they played, making it hard for the dedicated crowd not to dance (in place or with someone else) to the music while singing along to nearly every word.
The crowd, which was a study of style (featuring jocks, older couples dressed for a night out, a guy in a business shirt, punkier styled people), seemed to know everything off of Speaking in Cursive, which made each song a party (they also played a lot of songs from Three) instead of just the older songs. From the looks of it, Two Cow Garage couldn't have cared less what the crowd was doing, as they were flat out having a blast on stage. The songs were as tight as the space the band had to play (picture a front porch complete with a small fence), and the sound (I give Jake's props for having great live sound) was lively.
This was a show that serves as a reminder as to how fun music is. Two Cow Garage are extremely exciting both live and on record, a band that is going to be known to a lot more people in the very near future.
